Marking a decisive shift from vision to execution, Sarojini Nagar today took a major step towards its #NetZeroSarojiniNagar2047 vision with the launch of the ‘Net Zero Industry’ initiative under “The Green Shift”, in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Finance Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Suresh Kumar Khanna Ji.
The initiative, led by MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, represents the fourth and most critical pillar of a comprehensive, time-bound Net Zero roadmap for the constituency. Built on a structured framework, the roadmap includes:
1.Net Zero Schools & Colleges
2.Net Zero Societies & RWAs
3.Net Zero Townships
4.Net Zero Industry (launched today)
5.Net Zero Villages & Sarovars
Incentivising Participation
To accelerate adoption, ‘The Green Shift Industrial Excellence Award’ will be conferred on World Environment Day (5th June), with a ₹5 lakh prize for the best-performing enterprise.
Having already conducted 9+ impactful programmes across the Tarai region and initiated the Net Zero movement in the presence of Shri Sanjay Dutt Ji, today’s launch signifies the transition from awareness to on-ground implementation.
The event witnessed participation from key industry stakeholders including UP Rollers Association, Radico Khaitan, K3M Road Safety and Advertising, GPS Renewable Pvt. Ltd., SLMG Beverages Pvt Ltd, and Jakson Renewable. The programme was also graced by the presence of Shri Rameshwar Singh Ji, Shri Rajneesh Sethi Ji, Shri Vikas Arya Ji, Shri Vivek Ladhani Ji, Shri Shailesh Vikram Singh Ji, Shri Tejpal Sial Ji, Shri Ajay Gupta Ji, Shri Karan Chanda Ji, Shri Shiv Shankar Awasthi Ji, and Shri Sarvesh Goyal Ji, reflecting strong collective support from industry and leadership alike.
Finance Minister, Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Kumar Khanna emphasized that “prevention is always better than cure,” underscoring the need for proactive measures to safeguard the environment. He highlighted that rather than waiting for challenges to arise, collective efforts must focus on anticipating and addressing environmental concerns with sensitivity and responsibility.
Minister Khanna also lauded the dedicated efforts of Dr. Rajeshwar Singh in advancing the vision of environmental sustainability. He particularly appreciated his initiative in bringing together industry leaders from across Lucknow onto a single platform, fostering dialogue and collaborative action towards a greener and more sustainable future.
Why Industry is Central to the Transition
The initiative underscores that industries and MSMEs are at the heart of both the challenge and the solution. Data presented during the event highlighted:
• 5–6% working hours lost due to heat stress
• 8–10% annual productivity loss due to pollution
• ₹5–10 lakh loss per ₹1 crore turnover for MSMEs
• ₹100+ crore annual losses in the Sarojini Nagar industrial cluster
At the global level:
• 1.1°C rise in global temperatures (IPCC)
• 7 million deaths annually due to pollution (WHO)
• EU CBAM (2026) posing a potential $771 million export risk
The message is clear: sustainability is no longer optional—it is an economic necessity.
Net Zero as an Economic Opportunity
The initiative positions Net Zero not as a cost, but as a business advantage, unlocking:
• Up to 30% reduction in energy costs through rooftop solar
• 30–50% savings via efficiency improvements
• ₹5–20 lakh annual gains per MSME through water and waste optimisation
• 2–3% export premium in global markets
• Additional revenue streams via carbon credits
• ₹100 crore annual gain potential for Sarojini Nagar industries
Robust Support Ecosystem for Industries
To ensure successful implementation, a comprehensive support system has been established:
• Government initiatives like ZED Certification (27,000+ MSMEs), MSE-GIFT, RAMP, along with subsidies and policy support
• ₹20 lakh concessional loans with 2% interest subvention
• ₹51,883 crore green financing (IREDA FY26)
• ₹3 lakh crore CGTMSE coverage
• Technical guidance from IIT & IIM-trained experts via a dedicated Net Zero Helpline
• Private ecosystem partners providing carbon accounting, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation solutions
A Clear Implementation Pathway
Industries have been provided with a simple, actionable framework:
Detect → Design → Deploy → Deliver
Aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s Panchamrit commitments and guided by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji’s leadership, the initiative reflects a strong convergence of policy vision and grassroots execution.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh emphasized:
“Net Zero is no longer a distant ideal—it is measurable, achievable, and profitable. Sarojini Nagar has taken the first step, and this initiative ensures that our industries become leaders of sustainable growth, not just participants.”
With this launch, Sarojini Nagar positions itself as a model for decentralized climate action, demonstrating how local leadership, industry participation, and structured planning can together drive India’s transition to a sustainable future.
The journey to Net Zero 2040 has got acceleration. 🇮🇳
